Fed up with prompts to use Edge? Windows 11 users in Europe won’t get them anymore, but sadly everyone else will

  • Microsoft is making changes to Edge in the European Economic Area to comply with the Digital Markets Act, which will stop prompting users to set it as the default browser.
  • Users outside the EEA will not benefit from these changes, as there are no regulatory pressures in place like in the EEA.
  • Additional changes include not receiving prompts to reinstall Edge when it's uninstalled and having more file formats tied to the default browser choice.
  • Windows users in the EEA will also soon be able to uninstall the Microsoft Store, with app updates continuing even after removal to ensure security patches.
