A federal court has ruled against President Trump's attempt to impose tariffs on imported goods, including Apple products, that could have led to significantly higher iPhone prices in the U.S.
The court found that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not allow the president to unilaterally impose such tariffs without Congressional approval.
The invalidated tariff orders threatened a 25% tariff on all iPhones produced outside the U.S., potentially raising prices by thousands of dollars.
The ruling came in response to lawsuits filed by U.S. businesses and a coalition of states, blocking the Trump administration's efforts to reset trade balances through tariffs.
