The first-ever tiny red house on the moon, named The Moonhouse, is set to land on June 5th, 2025, designed as a traditional Swedish cottage by artist Mikael Genberg.
The Moonhouse project was launched in January 2025 and has been traveling aboard the Japanese lunar lander RESILIENCE for over four months, with a soft landing planned in Mare Frigoris.
This isn't the first attempt by the team; a similar mission in 2023 didn't succeed. Artist Mikael Genberg has been working with engineers to ensure a safe landing on the moon's surface.
The Moonhouse's landing and positioning will mark the realization of a dream that Genberg has had since 1999. The tiny red cottage is a tribute to Swedish homes and aims to remind viewers of their roots and origins.
