The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched a probe into Ford Motor Co.'s BlueCruise driver assistance system after two fatal crashes.
The crashes occurred in 2024 and were linked to the driver-assistance software. In the first crash near San Antonio, Texas, a driver in a Mustang Mach-E collided with a stationary Honda CRV, resulting in a fatality.
The second fatal crash happened in Philadelphia when a Ford car struck a Hyundai Elantra and a Toyota Prius from behind, causing fatalities in both cars.
The investigation by NHTSA is similar to previous probes into autonomous vehicle crashes, such as those involving Tesla's Autopilot feature.
