Google has teamed up with the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to explore using the sensors in Pixel phones for subway maintenance.Pixel phones were able to detect 92% of problems on subway tracks over a four-month test, which were later confirmed by experts.The sensors in smartphones can be utilized to identify maintenance needs for subway tracks at a lower cost and with less labor.The MTA is responsible for managing 665 miles of subway tracks and is exploring innovative ways to enhance subway maintenance processes.
