A former AWS engineer, John McBride, has shared creative tactics employees used to dodge Amazon’s strict return-to-office (RTO) policy.
After Amazon mandated office attendance five days a week, employees found ways to appear compliant without being physically present. These included badging in during lunch breaks, spoofing home Wi-Fi to mimic the office network, and sharing security badges with coworkers to clock in.
McBride, who resigned in 2023, highlighted these methods in a viral post, sparking debate on whether tech workers truly need to be in offices, given the success of remote work during the pandemic.
