France recorded its 10th crypto-related kidnapping in 2025, known as 'wrench attacks.'
The most recent incident took place in Maisons-Alfort, a suburb of Paris, where a 23-year-old man was abducted while running errands.
The victim was coerced into instructing his partner to hand over a Ledger hardware wallet with the private key for his crypto assets and €5,000 in cash.
Violence was used to force the victim to cooperate, as reported by an unnamed source to Le Parisien.
The attackers released the victim in Créteil after the handoff, and authorities have not disclosed his identity or any suspects' apprehension.
This incident marks the 10th confirmed 'wrench attack' in France in 2025 and brings the global total to at least 32 attacks for the year, as tracked by cypherpunk researcher Jameson Lopp.
Security experts are advising crypto holders to reassess their asset storage methods and enhance precautions to mitigate real-world risks.
