French authorities have charged 25 people in connection with a string of kidnappings and attempted abductions targeting members of the country’s cryptocurrency sector, including six minors aged between 16 and 23.
The suspects had created various plans to kidnap leaders in the crypto industry and their families, with incidents reported in Paris and Nantes involving crypto executives’ families being targeted in coordinated kidnap plots.
Several individuals linked to the Paris and Nantes kidnapping attempts were arrested, with the criminals trying to extract information from the victims, leading to injuries but no fatalities.
The rise in crypto-related abductions in France in 2025 has prompted authorities to enhance safety measures, including better collaboration between law enforcement and the crypto industry to mitigate risks faced by individuals working in the cryptocurrency sector.
