French fantasy tennis platform Fungiball secures €2.2M funding: An exclusive interview with  Jean Matias CEO and founder

  • Fantasy tennis platform Fungiball, based in Paris, has announced it raised €2.2m in a pre-seed funding round with support from private investors including Adrien Dassault, alongside participation from Cliff Capital and BPI France.
  • Funds will be used to grow the tech team to scale the platform, develop new features and expand internationally, starting with North America, Europe, and Asia.
  • Besides funding, Fungiball also announced the appointment of two tennis superstars — Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev, as official ambassadors.
  • Fungiball Tennis provides fans with an interactive, immersive experience where they can build their dream teams, trade players and earn rewards.
  • Distributed player cards can be traded on a secondary trading market along with an auction system, which creates additional revenue streams for the Fungiball brand.
  • The company has established more than 5,000 registered users since its January 2021 launch.
  • Fungiball addresses the challenge of creating a fantasy sports platform for tennis, considering the difficulty in obtaining licensing from players and tennis bodies.
  • Co-founder Jean Matias announced the firm also has a partnership with France’s iconic Le Coq Sportif sports retailer.
