OpenMediaVault (OMV) is a Linux-based OS designed specifically for Network Attached Storage (NAS).
OMV is user-friendly and lightweight, offering flexibility in storage management, file sharing, and security through plugins.
OMV can run on low-power devices and typical system requirements are modest.
During installation, you will need to select system language, installation location, keyboard layout, network card interface, hostname, domain name, and location for system time configuration.
You will also be prompted to select a root password.
After installation, you can access OMV using its IP address.
Attach storage to the system and set maximum storage thresholds by percentage.
Then set the mounted storage to have a shared folder that can be used as a NAS.
Add users to be able to access the Samba service with read/write permissions.
OMV allows users to expand its functionality as needed using plugins.
