The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) presents GLITTER, the world’s first museum exhibition dedicated entirely to the shimmering, controversial material.
The exhibition unpacks the symbolic power of glitter across art, design, pop culture, and activism with works by around 40 international artists and designers.
From drag culture to feminist protests and high fashion, glitter is explored for its transformative potential in empowerment and resistance.
The show features a variety of artworks including a teen room installation, protest photography, and a collection of wigs, costumes, and nail art.
GLITTER offers a lens to explore identity, politics, and artistic expression, touching on historical roles, queer nightlife, and environmental debates.
Visitors can interact by contributing personal glitter stories, creating their own designs, and witnessing thought-provoking installations like Puff Out.
'This exhibition is about much more than aesthetics—it’s about identity, resistance, and cultural expression,' says Tulga Beyerle, director of MK&G.
GLITTER exhibition showcases the joy, inclusivity, and celebration that the material represents through art, history, and contemporary debates.
The exhibition also explores biodegradable alternatives for glitter and invites active participation from the audience.
Featuring artists like :mentalKLINIK, Molly Soda, and Bill Kaulitz, GLITTER bridges the gap between art, culture, and environmental concerns.
