The State University System of Florida chancellor has mandated security reviews of all universities following a mass shooting at Florida State University.
The focus of the reviews includes building access control and lockdown drill capabilities.
The goal is to complete assessments by the end of summer for budget requests in the 2026 legislative session.
A safety summit will be held in October to share best practices and review safety assessment results.
Florida's university system, with 12 universities and over 430,000 students, is the second largest in the U.S.
Chancellor praised FSU police for their quick response during the shooting that left two dead and six injured.
The suspect, a 20-year-old FSU student, used a handgun belonging to his stepmother in the attack.
Investigators noted the suspect's history of mental health issues and participation in youth training programs offered by the sheriff's department.
The suspect was indicted on two counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted first-degree murder.
All injured victims have been released from the hospital following the shooting.
