The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced the Junk Fees Rule, requiring live-event ticketing and short-term lodging businesses to be transparent about the total price owed.
The rule aims to eliminate hidden fees and deceptive pricing tactics by ensuring that the initial price shown includes all additional fees.
Businesses will be required to prominently display the final amount owed and are prohibited from adding undisclosed fees later in the purchasing process.
The FTC estimates that the Junk Fees Rule will save individuals up to 53 million hours and over $11 billion over the next decade.
