FTC paying out first round of Fortnite refunds

  • The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is sending out $72 million in refunds to Fortnite players as part of a settlement deal with Epic Games.
  • The refunds are intended to compensate players who were deceived into making unauthorized purchases and had their content blocked when disputing charges.
  • Epic Games was ordered to pay $520 million two years ago for using dark patterns to deceive customers and allowing children to make charges without parental involvement.
  • Fortnite players can still submit claims for unauthorized charges online at ftc.gov/fortnite.
