Apple has around two years to catch up in AI, needing to significantly increase investments and possibly acquire Anthropic, says analyst Gene Munster.
Apple arrived late to the AI race dominated by OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Meta, faced delays and challenges in scaling AI efforts with Siri and Apple Intelligence features.
Munster believes Apple should invest more in AI to control features and privacy, aiming for a best-in-class model to avoid dependence on third-party AI.
Apple needs to boost capex investment to $20-$25 billion annually, current rate at $11 billion, to catch up with competitors like OpenAI, Google, and Meta.
