German data protection authority regulator asked Apple and Google to block the DeepSeek app from their app stores, labeling it as 'illegal content.'
The DeepSeek app was found to be illegally transferring users' personal data to China, violating European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) standards.
Apple and Google were contacted after DeepSeek failed to comply with requests to rectify the data transfer issues, as per Berlin Data Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
In addition to Germany's concerns, the U.S. House Select Committee on China also warned about the security threat posed by DeepSeek, recommending measures to address risks from Chinese AI models.
