GitHub Copilot goes multimodel, adding support for Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude LLMs
- GitHub Copilot will no longer be powered exclusively by OpenAI’s GPT models but will now adopt a multimodel approach.
- Spark is a new AI tool introduced by GitHub, which helps automate much of the work involved in building web applications.
- GitHub Copilot will now support an expanded range of OpenAI models and Anthropic PBC's and Google LLC’s models.
- The adoption of multimodel approach offers developers the ability to switch models based on what they're trying to accomplish.
- Microsoft may now seek to end its exclusivity agreement with OpenAI and enable their users to access other models in its own Copilot tools.
- Spark will help fulfill GitHub's vision of creating 1 billion developers in the world.
- Anthropic and Gemini will first become available in the GitHub Copilot web and VS Code chat interfaces.
- Choice of the model won’t just be up to developers – organizations will also be able to select which models they’re willing to make available to various team members using GitHub Copilot Enterprise.
- GitHub Spark can then deploy it wherever the user wants it, on a desktop, tablet or smartphone, for example.
- With the introduction of a multimodel approach, the next phase of AI code generation will not only be defined by multimodel functionality, but by multimodel choice.
