GM invests $1.4 billion in new V8 following mass recall

  • General Motors (GM) is investing $1.377 billion in a new sixth-generation small-block V8 engine to be produced at the Tonawanda Propulsion plant in Buffalo, New York.
  • The investment marks GM's largest single investment in an engine plant and aims to improve performance, fuel economy, and reduce emissions in full-size trucks and SUVs.
  • The new V8 engine will be manufactured in two locations, including the Flint Engine plant in Michigan, and is expected to replace the current 'Gen V' engine introduced in 2013.
  • The announcement comes amidst GM's response to tariffs imposed by President Trump and signals the company's commitment to strengthening American manufacturing and supporting jobs in the US.
