GM is Facing a Class Action Lawsuit Over Failures of Its 6.2L V8 L87 Truck Engines

  • A class-action lawsuit has been filed against General Motors by a Seattle law firm on behalf of plaintiffs from Washington and California, accusing GM of knowingly selling vehicles with defective 6.2-liter L87 engines in certain 2021-2024 trucks and SUVs.
  • GM has corrected the manufacturing process for 2025 vehicles to address the rod-bearing damage caused by sediment on connecting rods and in crankshaft oil galleries, eliminating the problem for newer vehicles.
  • The lawsuit alleges that the engine defect lowers the value of affected vehicles and poses safety risks, with GM issuing a safety recall N252494001 for 2021-2024 Chevy Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Chevy Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon/Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV.
  • Affected owners will be notified by GM with further instructions on how to proceed, including inspections and necessary replacements to address the issue.
