Google CEO Sundar Pichai has informed employees to anticipate more job cuts in 2024 as the company undergoes significant restructuring.
Over a thousand employees have already been laid off in various departments, including hardware, ad sales, trust and safety, shopping, maps, policy core engineering, and YouTube teams.
Pichai emphasized the necessity of "tough choices" to create capacity for ambitious goals and investments. While the layoffs are substantial, Pichai assured that they won't match the scale of last year's 12,000 job cuts.
The tech industry trend continues, with Amazon also implementing layoffs in January, contributing to over 7,500 job cuts in early 2024 across the sector.
