Google Chrome will not launch with admin rights anymore, to reduce security risks

  • Google Chrome on Windows will no longer run with administrator privileges by default to protect users from potentially malicious threats.
  • Microsoft Edge has a similar feature introduced in 2019 to prevent launching with elevated privileges and automatically tries to relaunch without them.
  • A commit to the Chromium source code by a Microsoft engineer will implement an auto-relaunch system in Google Chrome on Windows to reduce security risks.
  • This change won't affect Chrome processes running in automation mode to avoid interference with tools used by companies or developers, enhancing user security by blocking admin access.
