Garmin has introduced a free Google Maps app for its smartwatches, offering turn-by-turn directions for activities like walking, cycling, and running.
The Garmin app's functionality is limited compared to the Wear OS version, focusing on basic directions. Users need to set a destination on the Google Maps mobile app and keep their Android smartphone within range.
The app will alert users with vibrations for upcoming turns, allows tapping the screen to see the next three turns, and continues to track activities like running and biking while in use.
The Google Maps app is downloadable from Garmin's Connect IQ Store and works with about 90 different smartwatch models from the company.
