Google has signed a 200 MW fusion energy deal with Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) to power future AI operations.
This marks Google's first energy deal involving fusion technology and is the largest fusion power purchase agreement to date.
The agreement involves purchasing electricity from CFS's planned ARC fusion power plant in Virginia, which is expected to start operations in the early 2030s.
Fusion energy, which mimics the process in the sun, offers clean energy without greenhouse gas emissions or long-lived radioactive waste, aiming to provide reliable power as Google's energy needs grow with expanding AI infrastructure.
