Google has updated its Personal Loans policy on Play Store to restrict apps that offer loans to individuals from accessing sensitive user data such as photos, videos, and contacts.
The restrictions will come into effect from May 31 and will prevent loan apps from accessing external storage, photos, videos, contacts, precise location, and call logs.
The move comes amid rising concerns over harassment by debt collectors, who have allegedly accessed borrowers personal contacts and employed manipulated images to intimidate and distress those in debt.
