The FireSat system, a collaborative effort between Google Research, Muon Space, Earth Fire Alliance, Moore Foundation, and other agencies, aims to detect wildfires before they become uncontrollable.
FireSat utilizes AI and a "wildfire boundary map" to search for wildfires and differentiate between real fires and environmental noise.
The system can detect a wildfire the size of a classroom within 20 minutes, providing response teams with more time to contain the blaze before it spreads.
While FireSat is still in development, it has the potential to significantly improve early wildfire detection and response efforts.
