The Indian government plans to launch 'Sahkar Taxi', a cooperative-run ride-hailing app to challenge private cab-hailing apps.
The initiative aims to implement a structure where the profits from the service will go to the drivers themselves.
This move comes as Ola and Uber face criticism over differential pricing, and the Central Consumer Protection Authority issued notices to both companies earlier this year.
The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union has supported the Sahkar Taxi initiative, stating that it would ensure fair earnings for drivers and eliminate intermediaries.
