Grab has started a six-month trial of an autonomous electric shuttle bus in Singapore to provide first- and last-mile commutes for its employees between the office and a nearby MRT station.
The shuttle, developed by Korean manufacturer Autonomous A2Z (A2Z), is equipped with 11 sensors for a 360-degree view, allowing it to detect and maneuver around objects and obstacles safely.
A trained safety operator will be present during the trials to ensure passenger safety, and the shuttle underwent extensive testing, including data annotation to enhance its responsiveness to real-world scenarios.
The shuttle will operate daily for two hours during off-peak times, with additional hours for training, and Grab employees can track its schedule, location, and seat availability via the Grab app.
