The Palm Springs Homeless Navigation Center, designed by John Friedman Alice Kimm Architects (JFAK), is a transitional housing and services facility located on a sloping desert site east of Los Angeles.
The project transforms underutilized areas into a multi-functional campus supporting individuals, youth, and families experiencing homelessness with housing units, shared outdoor spaces, and supportive services.
Color and graphics are used as architectural elements, with gradient hues on building faces reflecting sunrise and sunset, aiding in wayfinding and enhancing spatial identity.
The project integrates modular construction and adaptive reuse, emphasizing environmental performance, graphic clarity, and a balance between private living spaces and communal areas.
