Apple has invested in making AirPods Pro function as over-the-counter hearing aids, approved by the FDA and other regulators, with a hearing test app on the iPhone to adjust audio profiles.
The cost of hearing aids is 25 times more than AirPods Pro, but the effectiveness may not be 25 times better, especially for mild hearing loss cases.
AirPods Pro can still be sufficient in some situations but may carry a stigma as people might assume you're not paying attention when wearing them.
While the hearing aids are discreet and match hair color, they lack the tight integration with the phone that AirPods have due to Apple's proprietary Bluetooth features.
