The Commerce Ministry is setting up a high-level panel to prepare for potential import surges resulting from higher tariffs on competing manufacturing nations such as China and Thailand.
The panel will have members from the Department of Commerce, Revenue and Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade and will focus on key product groups including consumer goods, electronics, chemicals, and steel.
Data analysis will begin in June-July when the full effect of tariffs on shipments is expected to take place, as exporters rush to send shipments to the US before the tariffs hit.
India is imposing anti-dumping duties on certain items, particularly from China, to safeguard domestic industries from cheap imports.
