Christopher Linke and Alexander Yee, two Riot Games insiders without TV experience, created a show based on the game 'League of Legends' for Netflix called 'Arcane'.
Linke moved to Los Angeles and joined the video game company Riot Games in 2010 after he became disillusioned with the music industry which he had worked in before.
His initial job there was in customer support, however, he rose through the ranks and ultimately became a creative director.
Arcane follows the established characters from League of Legends in its story-driven and visually distinct adaptation.
Riot provided unheard-of creative freedom to the team who made the show, which is why it has been so successful.
According to Linke and fellow co-creator Alexander Yee, Riot's company culture gave them the space to experiment and explore.
Reportedly steep production costs and a lengthy timeline gave them the time and space to create a beloved series that hits the mark with both fans and critics alike.
After racking up millions of viewing hours and hitting No. 1 on Netflix's global top 10 English-language television list, Netflix renewed the series for a second season.
Arcane has garnered near-universal critical acclaim alongside winning several Emmy Awards, including outstanding animated program.
Arcane remains Riot's most successful adaptation and one that seems to represent the blueprint for long-term success in adapting game franchises.
