US study finds money can buy happiness, with income increasing happiness up to $100,000 (approx Rs 82 lakh) and accelerating beyond that.
33,391 adults surveyed, observing a correlation between money and happiness up to $500,000 (approx Rs 4.1 crore), but 20% experienced decreasing happiness with rising income.
"Miseries" such as heartbreak, bereavement or clinical depression cited as reasons for unhappiness, with suffering decreasing up to $100,000, but not much beyond that.
This study was conducted by Nobel Prize-winning psychologist Daniel Kahneman and economist Matthew Killingsworth, published on March 1, 2023.
