Microsoft has recently showcased its engineering process for building smaller Surface Pro and Surface Laptop devices at its headquarters in Redmond, Washington.
The company uses magnets, robots, drop tests, and smoke to perfect the designs of its laptops and tablets.
One of the challenges was making the Surface Pen attach securely to the new Surface Pro 12-inch while still being easy to detach with one hand.
Engineers experimented with different magnet combinations and tested their effectiveness using machines that measure force and distance required to detach the pen.
