Phanindra Sama, redBus.in's CEO, defies the typical entrepreneur stereotype with his humble background. Unfamiliarity with travel and experience in the industry, his journey started with a simple frustration: missing a bus ticket home for Diwali.
Phanindra and his friends, Charan Padmaraju and Sudhakar Pasupunuri, launched redBus in August 2006 with just 5 lakh rupees.
Despite initial challenges, they persuaded operators to offer seats online, reaching 350 in the first year. By 2013, the company's success culminated in a remarkable ₹800 crore acquisition by Ibibo Group, cementing its legacy in India's startup landscape.
