Facebook has launched an anti-scam awareness campaign for the holiday season, sharing safety tools it has introduced in Facebook Marketplace, Whatsapp and Instagram, as well as disruptive activities against common scams.
Facebook has partnered with an internet safety expert, Rachel Tobac, in raising awareness about scamming activities this holiday season.
The post identified three common scams consumers might expect: promise of Christmas gift boxes; discount holiday decorations; and fake holiday coupons.
Facebook offers tools to prevent scams, such as alerts on Marketplace, context cards on Whatsapp and reminder to be aware of suspicious interactions on Instagram.
Facebook highlights how it works with financial services institutions and peers in counteracting scams, which are becoming an increasingly sophisticated activity.
The report also identified the work Facebook does in taking down sites linked to scams, including phishing domains and fake accounts.
Facebook is also collaborating with public figures and NGOs to raise awareness about scams, including in regions such as Latin America and Europe.
