Learn how to transfer photos, documents, audio, video, and other files between your Mac and a Windows computer using a Bluetooth connection.
The main downside of Bluetooth transfer is the super slow speed. Another specific limitation with Bluetooth transfer on Windows 11 and Windows 10 is that you must dig into computer settings each time you want to receive a file from a previously paired device.
Send files from Mac to Windows PC by pairing both desktops over Bluetooth. You won’t have to repeat the pairing process unless you manually forget or remove the devices in Bluetooth settings.
On Windows PC, go to Bluetooth & devices, activate Bluetooth, click Send or receive files via Bluetooth, and choose Receive files.
On Mac, open the built-in Bluetooth File Exchange app by searching for it in Spotlight or locating it in the Other folder of Launchpad. Select the files you want to send and choose your Windows PC from the list of devices.
After the transfer finishes, it will show a “Save the received file” window. Choose the location shown, or select another location and save it there.
You may face an issue where your Mac will get stuck on the “Connecting to the device” or “The device does not have the necessary services” screen. Try disconnecting the device, reopen the Bluetooth File Exchange app and retry sending the file.
Send files from Windows PC to Mac by pairing both computers. On Mac, ensure Bluetooth Sharing is enabled. On Windows PC, choose Send or receive files via Bluetooth, then find and select your Mac.
One cannot permanently keep the Windows PC in Bluetooth file-receiving mode for security reasons. You’ll have to click Receive files every time!
Perform basic troubleshooting like restarting both computers, updating Bluetooth drivers, forgetting both computers from Settings/System Settings and pair them again, and consider alternatives if the problem continues, like sending files via thumb drive, email, Sharedrop, WhatsApp on desktop, or a cloud service like OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or iCloud Drive.
