A 53-year-old HR employee in Singapore, Tan Lee Nah, was sentenced to 18 months in jail for embezzling $148,000 from her company, D'Perception Singapore.
Starting in May 2017, just two months after joining, she submitted false expense claims until she was caught in November 2019. Tan used the funds for her child's tuition and her parents' medical bills.
She was the only one with access to the payroll system and manipulated it for personal gain. Her scheme was discovered when an employee saw her inflated salary statement, leading to an investigation and her subsequent guilty plea on June 3, 2024.
