Huawei plans to start small-scale commercialization of vehicles with Level 3 semi-autonomous driving capabilities for highways in China this year.
The company aims to test Level 4 highly autonomous vehicles on city streets this year with a goal of wider adoption in China by 2026.
Huawei released its fourth-generation Qiankun advanced driving system in April, prepared for L3 semi-autonomous driving on Chinese highways.
Regulatory approval from Beijing is necessary before the technology can be accessed by drivers, with L3 allowing the human driver to not constantly monitor the vehicle.
