South Korea’s largest shipbuilder, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), is partnering with robotics companies to develop humanoid robots for welding tasks in shipyards.
The humanoid welders aim to improve productivity, reduce physical strain, and enhance safety for human workers in shipyards.
Field testing for the first prototype humanoids is set to begin by the end of 2026, with full-scale deployment planned for 2027.
This collaboration signifies a significant step towards smart shipyards in South Korea, where robots and humans will work together to meet the increased demand for global ship orders.
