Hyderabad-based CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology has partnered with Tata Trust Foundation and the National Health Mission to screen the population of Jharkhand for Sickle Cell Anaemia.
The collaboration aims to raise awareness, enable early detection of the disease, and contribute towards the eventual elimination of Sickle Cell Anaemia in Jharkhand.
Sickle Cell Disease is a genetic blood disorder that causes anaemia, pain crises, and affects various organs.
The screening efforts will begin in the Kolhan region of Jharkhand, and CSIR-CCMB will provide expertise in counseling carriers and guiding couples towards prenatal diagnosis.
