A Texas federal judge has ruled that the Department of Labor overstepped its bounds in increasing the minimum salary required for an employee to be considered salaried exempt.
The minimum salary for salary exemption has been reduced back to $684 per week, or $35,568 annually.
Employees who are exempt are not eligible for overtime, regardless of how many hours they work.
Employers can undo any changes made to employee pay or classification in response to the previous minimum salary increase.
