IKEA is revamping its smart home lineup to include full Matter support, enabling compatibility with Apple Home and other ecosystems without needing IKEA's own hub.
Starting in January 2026, IKEA will release over 20 new Matter-over-Thread smart lights, sensors, and remotes that work directly with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings.
Thread is a low-power wireless mesh protocol, while Matter is an open-sourced connectivity software layer co-developed by Apple, Amazon, Google, and others, offering compatibility over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Thread.
IKEA's move to add Matter support should be beneficial for Apple HomeKit users, providing more affordable and seamless smart home device options that automatically work with Apple Home without additional certification.
