India is expanding its port business globally through Indian Ports Global Ltd (IPGL), focusing on projects in countries like Tanzania, Chabahar, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka.
IPGL is involved in equipping and operating container terminals at Chabahar port, establishing industrial parks in Tanzania, and taking over operations at Sittwe port in Myanmar and Kankesanthurai port in Sri Lanka.
India aims to increase the capacity at Chabahar port to 500,000 TEUs over a 10-year period and enhance connectivity through ports in Myanmar and Sri Lanka to strengthen regional economic partnerships.
Additionally, plans are underway to position IPGL as a domestic terminal operator through Bharat Global Ports, a newly formed consortium, to improve its international image and enhance its presence in India.
