India moves towards developing its first fifth-generation stealth fighter jet with the approval of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The AMCA aims to provide deep-penetration advanced medium combat aircraft for the Indian Air Force and Navy, potentially making India the third country to possess such stealth fighter jets after the US and China.
The initial development cost of the AMCA project is estimated to be around Rs 15,000 crore, with the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) leading the programme in collaboration with strategic industry partners.
India's focus on developing the AMCA demonstrates an important step towards enhancing indigenous defence capabilities and achieving self-reliance in the aerospace sector, especially given the evolving security challenges faced by the country.
