India is setting its sights on developing commuter aircraft with the creation of a new Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) initiative.
The SPV will be established under the Companies Act and aims to assemble a team of experts from the public and private sectors to oversee the project.
The initiative is part of the Bhartiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024, which provides regulations for aircraft design and manufacturing.
The SPV will have a tenure of five years and will focus on developing a commuter aircraft with a range of 600-700 km to support regional airlines and the growth of the aviation manufacturing sector.
