The Indian government has directed mobile phone makers to include FM Radio on their phones to help people during natural calamities and emergencies.
The IT Ministry has issued an advisory mandating all mobile phones to have a built-in radio receiver and enable it by default.
The Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) and the Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT) have been tasked with informing manufacturers to make these changes on priority.
The IT Ministry has noted that in the last 4 to 5 years, the FM Radio feature has gone out of fashion, leaving many people without free FM Radio service.
