Indian Navy To Induct First Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft

  • The Indian Navy is set to induct its first anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft named 'Arnala' on June 18.
  • Equipped for subsurface surveillance, search and rescue missions, and low-intensity maritime operations, 'Arnala' has over 80% indigenous content.
  • The warship integrates advanced systems from Indian defense firms like Bharat Electronics Ltd., L&T, Mahindra Defence, and MEIL.
  • 'Arnala' is designed to strengthen India's coastal defense and enhance its self-reliant maritime power in the Indian Ocean Region.
  • It is 77 meters long with a gross tonnage of over 1490 tonnes and is propelled by a unique diesel engine-waterjet combination.
  • The commissioning of 'Arnala' marks the formal induction of the first of sixteen anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft ships into the Indian Navy.
  • Constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers in Kolkata, 'Arnala' reflects the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative in defense manufacturing.
  • The warship's armoured hull and advanced weaponry symbolize resilience, vigilance, and historical significance akin to the Arnala Fort in Maharashtra.
  • The ship's motto, 'Arnave Shauryam' meaning 'Valour in the Ocean', embodies courage, strength, and dominance over the seas for the crew.
  • Named after Arnala Fort, 'Arnala' signifies India's rich maritime heritage and the spirit of defense against emerging threats at sea.
