Negotiations between India and the US on a bilateral trade pact are set to resume in Washington, with a key deadline of August 1 to avoid reciprocal tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.
The deadline for reaching a full Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) is September 2025, but there is also a push for an interim pact before August 1 to prevent reciprocal tariffs.
About two dozen countries, including India, have received tariff letters from Trump outlining rates that will be applied from August 1 if no deal is reached.
Key issues in the negotiations include US demands for market access across various sectors, while India seeks a rollback of tariffs on steel, aluminium, and the auto sector imposed by the US.
