Bharti Space Ltd., the space and satellite arm of Bharti Enterprises, is investing an additional €120 million in French satellite group Eutelsat, bringing its total investment to €150 million.
This investment is part of Eutelsat's expanded €1.5 billion capital raise, with Bharti Space's stake in Eutelsat set to decrease to 17.88% from 24.09%.
The French government is injecting €750 million into Eutelsat, becoming the company's largest shareholder with a 29.65% stake. The UK government is also participating in the capital raise.
Bharti's stake in Eutelsat is instrumental for its satellite-based broadband services in India, as Eutelsat OneWeb aims to bring connectivity. The Satcom market in India is witnessing increased competition with players like Starlink, Jio Platforms, and Vodafone Idea entering the segment.
