India’s semiconductor design global capability centres (GCCs) have witnessed a 15% decrease in job openings in the financial year 2024-25, attributed to ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and market volatility.
The decline in job opportunities reflects a cautious hiring environment driven by factors like global supply chain disruptions and fluctuating valuations in key tech areas making semiconductor design less headcount-intensive than other tech functions.
Despite the slowdown, the report found that the demand for niche skills like VLSI, embedded systems, and RF/analogue design remains strong, with mid-sized GCCs showing greater hiring agility.
The talent demand is concentrated in design, R&D, and manufacturing roles, with key skills sought after in physical design, embedded systems development, and VLSI design. India's semiconductor industry is actively supported by government projects and initiatives, gearing towards becoming a prominent semiconductor powerhouse.
